Beyond the Studio: Academic-Community Partnerships in Maui’s Recovery

This panel featured guest speakers Yasushi Ishida AIA, Assistant Professor at the UHM School of Architecture; Jeanne Unemori Skog, Partner at SR Partners LLC; and Jeremy Stoddart AIA, Founding Principal at Pili Design+Build, who presented on real-world collaborations in architectural education through design studios focused on post-wildfire recovery in Lahaina. The panel examined the stakeholder and planning challenges that shape real projects and educational experiences, while exploring how student design proposals can generate ideas, inform conversations, and create value for communities during long-term recovery.
